I know you're not going to believe this, but the past few weeks have been CRAZY. (HA! No surprise there you're thinking). No, seriously, more so than usual.
First of all some friends from my freshman seminar class and I, along with our wonderful professor, have been working diligently all semester long to bring a speaker from International Justice Mission to speak on campus about modern slavery and what we can do to stop it. Last week it finally happened. Andy Hein came and spoke at several events which included the annual Amnesty International dinner, a lecture, and a community wide Bible study. Not only was it really awesome to see so many people fired up and excited about finding ways to fight the injustice in our world, but it was also really cool just to talk with Andy about how seeking justice in our broken and hurting world is an import part of our faith.
And if all that wasn't enough, we even made the local news.
Apparently this clip aired several times during the day and so all of Sherman and the surrounding area saw. In fact all of the cafeteria workers recognized me and had questions about what we were doing and what they could do to help. Now THAT'S cool.
My hope is to share what I've been learning about justice along with some of my thoughts with you in the future, but that is going to have to wait until the school work part of college calms down. (Again, I know you may not believe it, but I actually do spend a lot of time studying.) In the meantime I would encourage you to check out the following websites:
Immediately after the IJM stuff was over, I jumped into preparations for the admitted student day here at AC. I was working as an ACE (Austin College Experience) leader, which basically meant that I made a bunch of phone calls, led a tour of campus, and in general made myself available to answer questions. As someone who attended ACE last year it was really cool to be able to share what I've learned in the following year.
It was also really awesome to think that some of the girls I met might actually be in my cluster next year. That's right people, I'm going to be an RA and I am SOOOOO EXCITED!
