Only in Sherman....

If you've been reading this blog since the beginning, you'll remember that I wasn't so keen on moving to Sherman, TX at first. (You Can Take the Girl Out of the City) After about a semester and a half I can confidently report that Sherman isn't all that bad. My main grievances towards the place have been resolved in the fact that we now have not only one but TWO frozen yogurt shops. Watch out Dallas, Sherman's moving up in the world. (Ok, maybe not.)

There are other perks to living in Sherman though! For instance, apparently it is totally acceptable to ride horses to school or mules to the Verizon store.
No, really.
Last Sunday we were sitting on a friend's front porch after worship when to men appear around the corner, riding their horses (home? To school? Just because? I guess we'll never know).

Pecan and Grand Ave. True Story.
This event in and of  itself wouldn't have been so funny if I hadn't just seen this a few days before. Some friends and I were on our way to Walmart in preparation for our camping trip (Lakeside) when low and behold beside the side of the road was a parked mule. ...Only in Texas.

Lakeside

Reentry into the world of academia after spring break proved to be a little rougher than my friends and I had anticipated. So with the calendar marking the official beginning of spring and the weather wholeheartedly cooperating, we headed out to the Lake Campus for a quick overnight camping trip to relax and recharge.
From bonfires, to board games, frisbee to ghost stories, there's no other way to describe it, these people are just plain fun.

Spring Break or Boredom

This week, formally known as spring break, has been characterized by a rather unassuming and relatively uneventful series of adventures. The first day, I woke up to find the weather had gotten inconveniently cold. (Definitely not doughnut weather....although I guess you could argue that any day is a good day for a doughnut.) In vain I hoped that this poor weather selection would be confined to Sherman and that my drive home to Houston would provide an escape from that dreadfully dreary day. No such luck. Shortly after I hopped in the car to head south it started to rain and it continued to rain...the entire way home. Additionally, I'm fairly certain that half of Dallas was also on its way to Houston for spring break. WHY? I'll never know, but between the traffic and the rain my drive home looked something like this.

BUT
I made it home safe and sound to find a delicious home cooked meal and adoring family waiting for me. That alone made the miserable trip worth while.

The next day I got 4in cut off my hair. It wasn't supposed to be that much and it made me sad.  How's THAT for excitement???

The other big spring break highlight was going to see Miranda Lambert at the rodeo. AWESOME. In case you didn't know I'm a big country music fan, but none of that washed up pop singer, sorry excuse for music mess. I like the real, singing through your nose to keep the prairie dust out of your lungs, hillbilly lyrics with some serious sass country music. Which is why I like Miranda Lambert. If I had to pick a superstar alter ego it would probably be her.
AND

You can always count on the rodeo, like any carnival or fair, to have an impressive selection of fried goodness: everything from funnel cakes (BORING: I know, but still my personal favorite) to fried fruity pebbles to chocolate covered bacon.

And that white blob to the right? Yes, that. Nachos served logically in a dog dish. Duh.
Other than that, I'm afraid my week has been pretty boring. Mostly I've been listening to show tunes, reading the Hunger Games (yes...it's true) and watching lots of mind numbing television.  While this is definitely not the most exciting or exotic way to spend spring break, and there have been times when I've been tempted to complain about being bored, I really am enjoying the luxury of having nowhere to go and nothing to do. Just what I need before diving back into the chaos they call "college".

Sunshine and Doughnuts

I love sunny days. I love dresses and sunglasses, and doughnuts and lemon bars. On days like today, I even love homework. I haven't mentioned just how beautiful the weather has been here at AC for fear of jinxing it. However, today was too perfect not to to share it with you!
